DSCC removing all man-made waste: Taposh
He visited Basabo Canal, Old Buriganga Channel and Kalunagar Canal on Wednesday to observe the progress in cleaning those water bodies
Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has been conducting drives to remove all man-made waste from the city, said Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh.
He made the statement after visiting Basabo Canal, Old Buriganga Channel and Kalunagar Canal on Wednesday to observe the progress achieved in removing waste from those water bodies.
The DNCC mayor told the journalists, "You may notice that we are freeing Dhaka South City Corporation from corruption just the way we are removing man-made waste from the canals. So, we are removing trash in every sense of the word."

Responding to a question on obstacles to evicting land grabbers, Taposh said, "There will be barriers if you want to do something good. But we have started this programme with determination."
He further said, "A process to hand over eleven canals, including the Old Buriganga Channel, under the DSCC has started. But we are not waiting for that. We want to make these canals clean and free from grabbers this season."
"Last week we visited areas from Jirani Canal to Basabo Canal. Today we have come to visit the Buriganga Canal. We have already started our activities. Initially, we will clean up the areas and determine boundaries. Then we will evict the land grabbers and create a pleasing environment at these sites," said the mayor.
Taposh said the canals are blocked by waste dumped into them, which bars the water flow.
"So we will clean up the canals before the next rainy season and set up fences after determining the boundaries where they will be necessary," he added.
