Dhaka University has decided to appeal against a High Court verdict that nullified the expulsion of students linked to the 2010 killing of Abu Bakar Siddique, a third-year Islamic History and Culture student.
In a statement released yesterday, DU authorities clarified that the decision was made in pursuit of justice.
Abu Bakar was fatally injured during a factional clash of Chhatra League at Sir AF Rahman Hall on 2 February 2010. He died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital the following day.
In response to the incident, DU's syndicate expelled ten students temporarily. Later, two of the expelled students contested the decision through separate writ petitions, leading to a High Court ruling that declared the expulsions invalid in 2012.
