250 people sued for attacking JU students
The authorities of Jahangirnagar University (JU) have filed a case against 250 unknown people from Savar's Gerua village, who had attacked the university students over a cricket tournament on Friday.
The case was filed with Ashulia police station on Sunday afternoon, said university's security officer Jefrul Hasan Chowdhury.
Following instruction from the acting registrar Rahima Kaniz, Jefrul Hasan lodged the case on behalf of the university authorities.
Ashulia police station's Inspector (operations) Abdur Rashid said, "JU administration filed the complaint. The case is under process."
Earlier in the day, protesting students gave an ultimatum to file a case within 24 hours or the administration will face tougher actions.
In a press briefing, the students also demanded that for the sake of students' protection, the hostels should be opened, with all utility services in place.
On Friday evening, a group of people centring on a cricket tournament asked locals from the loudspeaker of a local mosque to get whatever they had to attack students to "protect their honour". That led to violence injuring 50 students.
