Activist of banned BCL held at Chittagong University while attending exam
An activist of banned Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) was held while attending an examination at Chittagong University today (6 January).
Sajjad Hossain, a student of 2018-19 academic session in the Department of Political Science, was allegedly involved in the killing of Hriday Chandra Tarua during the July movement on the campus.
Students captured Sajjad around 2pm at the Political Science department.
According to students, Sajjad was actively involved in intimidating students during the July movement. He also allegedly participated in an attack on students at Chattogram's New Market area on 3 August.
Abdullah Hazari, a student of the Political Science department, said, "He [Sajjad] directly attacked general students during the July movement and issued threats online. We demand his studentship be revoked."
Professor Bhuiyan Md Manowar Kabir, president of the Political Science department examination committee, said, "We allowed him to take the exam as there were no instructions from the university administration. We cannot act based on ideology without any written directives."
Proctor Professor Tanvir Mohammad Hayder Arif said, "Students brought him to the proctor office, accusing him of ties to the banned organisation. We handed him over to the police for further legal action."
Abu Kawsar Mohammad Hossain, officer-in-charge of Hathazari Model Police Station, said, "The Chhatra League activist is now in our custody. We will produce him in court."
