All students will get textbooks within February: Education adviser
At the initial stage, the government faced a shortage of art paper, says the adviser explaining the reasons behind the textbook distribution delay
Primary and secondary-level students will get all the free textbooks within the next month, said Education Adviser Wahiduddin Mahmud today (13 January).
"After taking charge, I was initially busy with the appointment of vice-chancellors at various universities. Officials dealing with textbooks [at the time] said all books would be distributed on time," he said.
"But later on, I saw that there is still a lot of work left to deliver the textbook," he added, explaining the delay in book distribution.
Wahiduddin, who is also the planning adviser, made the remarks at a meeting with representatives of the Education Reporters Association of Bangladesh at the Planning Commission in Dhaka.
Further explaining the reasons behind the textbook distribution delay, the adviser said at the initial stage, the government faced a shortage of art paper.
This was later resolved with the assistance of student representatives, intelligence agencies, and other stakeholders, he added.
Saying the government has purchased art paper, he assured, "Ship carrying art paper is expected to arrive in Bangladesh in late January."
