City University introduces smart certificates
City University in a move towards digitisation held its 4th convocation on Saturday, with distribution of electronically-signed academic certificates among the graduates.
The electronic sign-based certificates and other academic credentials were introduced in association with Relief Validation Limited (RVL), a certifying authority licensed under the ICT Division, says a release.
They have developed an electronic signature technology namely 'e-Sign' and 'verifiable digital seal (VDS)' to simplify the university's current process of issuing certificates and other academic credentials.
Education Minister Mohibul Hassan Chowdhoury was the chief guest of the convocation held at Bangabandhu Bangladesh-China Friendship Exhibition Centre in the capital's Purbachal.
State Minister for Commerce Ahasanul Islam joined as the special guest and Economic Adviser to the Prime Minister Mashihur Rahman delivered the convocation speech.
Now, the City University students will be able to apply for and acquire their academic certificates online.
As the certificates will be digitally and uniquely signed, students will be able to use it with the relevant stakeholders electronically, eliminating the current lengthy process of verification and validation.
