Daffodil International University holds physics Olympiad
Around 800 students from different schools and colleges attended the competition
Daffodil International University (DIU) recently held the Dhaka south regional round of 10th Dutch Bangla Bank-Prothom Alo physics Olympiad.
The university's Chairman Md Sabur Khan was present among others at the closing ceremony of the Olympiad, said a press release.
Around 800 students from different schools and colleges attended the competition and among them, 96 students were selected for the final round of the national level titled National Physics Olympiad.
The National Physics Olympiad will be held on February 28-29 at Dhaka University, added the release.
The winners of the national Olympiad will be able to attend the International Physics Olympiad in Lithuania.
Absar Khan Siam and Nabila Zaman were the winners of the Dhaka south regional round.
Speaking on the occasion, Md Sabur Khan said, "Students of our country cannot think of anything beyond banking, administrative and BCS jobs, as they lack competencies in core subjects of science."
"If we can make them interested about basic science from their childhood, they can build careers in science as scientists or researchers all around the world," he added.
"Physics Olympiad is playing a vital role to explore the merits of the students from the very beginning of their student lives," Sabur Khan further added.
