Dhaka University steps into 100 years
Marking the day, the university will arrange two programmes – hoisting national and DU flags, and a virtual discussion
The University of Dhaka, the oldest university in the country, has stepped into its 100 years today (Wednesday).
The teachers, students and employees will celebrate the day as the "DU Day" in a scaled-down manner as the university has curtailed this year's programme due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Marking the day, the university will arrange only two programmes – hoisting national and DU flags, and a virtual discussion titled "Dhaka University steps into 100: Movement and Struggle".

The university's Vice-Chancellor Professor Akhtaruzzaman will preside over the programmes while National Professor Rafikul Islam and pro-vice-chancellors, deans, provosts, chairmen and professors will also take part.
The university authorities started celebrating the day as DU Day in 1983.
The University of Dhaka started its academic activities on July 1, 1921, with three faculties, 12 departments, three residential halls, 60 teachers and 847 students.
After 99 years, the university has 13 faculties, 13 institutes, 84 departments, 60 bureaus and research centres, 19 residential halls, four hostels, 138 affiliated colleges and institutions, 46,150 students and 2,008 teachers.
