DU, Japan embassy hold seminar on higher studies in Japan
More than 130 Bangladeshi students received a Japanese government-funded scholarship in 2020
The Embassy of Japan in Bangladesh and Department of Japanese Studies of Dhaka University (DU) jointly organised an online seminar on Sunday looking forward to this year's opening of the Japanese government scholarship, MEXT, in mid-April.
The seminar titled "Study in Japan Seminar 2021" provided information about pursuing higher education in Japan, study and life in Japan as well as its advantages.
More than 2,000 students and faculty members of Dhaka University participated in the seminar. In 2020, more than 130 Bangladeshi students received this government-funded scholarship and are now studying in Japan in various academic fields.

The scholarship application opens twice a year – in mid-April according to the embassy's recommendation and in October according to the university's recommendation.
Two speakers, who completed their degrees in Japan on MEXT scholarships, also spoke about their experiences studying and daily lives as foreign students in Japan.
At the beginning of the seminar, Japanese Ambassador Naoki Ito said, "Over the past decade, our partnership has progressed well and deepened. And I really hope that people-to-people exchanges will also increase in parallel to economic partnership."
"I hope to make the most out of 2021, the 50th anniversary of Bangladesh's independence, as well as 2022, the 50th anniversary of Japan-Bangladesh relations, to elevate our partnership to a new height," he added.
He further said, "Looking into the next 50 years, my strong wish is to see an increasing number of capable and promising students of Bangladesh applying for the opportunity to study in Japan to be the bridges between our two countries in the future."
Dr Abdullah-AL-Mamun, chairman of Department of Japanese Studies of DU, said "We see continuous growth in FDI flow from Japan to Bangladesh and these people really need skilled human resources."
He also said, "Students who have Japanese degrees or those who go to Japan to study will have a great opportunity to work for companies coming to Bangladesh from Japan with investment. This investment will contribute to our overall economic development."
