Students of seven colleges welcome separation from DU, issue 24-hour ultimatum for other demands

The students of seven colleges have welcomed the decision taken by authorities of Dhaka University (DU) and the colleges to end the affiliation between them.
They, however, issued a 24-hour ultimatum to implement their five other demands, including the resignation of DU Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof Mamun Ahmed.
"If our demands are not accepted, no vehicles, including DU buses, will ply in front of the seven colleges," Moinul Islam, a student of Dhaka College, warned while speaking at a press briefing at around 7:00pm at the college's Shaheed Minar premises.
"We had made six demands the morning. DU has decided to cancel its affiliation with seven colleges. We welcome this. However, our other demands have not been met," Moinul Islam, a student of Dhaka College, told reporters in a press briefing at around 7:00pm at the college's Shaheed Minar premises.
"The OC of New Market Police Station and the AC of that zone have brutally beaten up one of our classmates. These police members must be withdrawn within the next 24 hours and departmental action must be taken. Otherwise, we students of seven colleges will besiege the police station. In addition, the DU Pro-VC must also resign," he said.
"Yesterday, Dhaka University students made distasteful comments about female students of Eden and other colleges. The Dhaka University administration must apologise for this.
