SUST students give 24-hr ultimatum for hall reopening
The students are protesting from Monday morning in front of the university
Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) students today staged demonstrations for the 3rd consecutive day and give a 24-hour ultimatum to the authorities concerned for reopening of all the dormitories of the university.
The students are protesting from Monday morning in front of the university.
Earlier on Saturday, the students took position in front the Vice-Chancellor's building with the same demand.
The students complained that it is inhumane to decide to take the final exam without taking the review of the online classes by keeping the residential hall closed during the exam.
To rent a new house, the hall students are facing various problems including financial crisis and insecurity.
Regarding the students' demand to open the hall before the exams, Shahjalal University Vice-Chancellor Professor Farid Uddin Ahmed said, "No decision has been taken yet on opening the hall."
For the time being, according to the government decision, the halls will remain closed till 28 February. Later, if the government decides to reopen the halls, we will open them.
He further said the decision to start the examination was taken at a meeting of the 163rd Academic Council of the university held online.
From 1 March, we have instructed each department to take the final examinations of the first, second and third semesters.
