LPG price hiked by Tk51 for Nov
The country consumes around 1 lakh tonnes of LPG per month
The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission has raised the price of a 12kg cylinder of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), mostly used for cooking, by Tk51 to Tk1,251 for November.
According to the new tariff announced at a media briefing on Wednesday, the LPG price now stands at Tk104.26 per kg; in October, it was at Tk100.01.
"The new rate will be effective from Wednesday evening," the commission's Chairman Md Abdul Jalil said at the virtual media briefing.
He said the price of other sizes of gas cylinders will be determined as per the LPG rate.
According to Md Abdul Jalil, the price has been adjusted considering the average of Saudi Aramco's contract price (CP) rate of Propane and Butane at $610 per tonne, which was $570.50 per tonne in October.
Saudi Arabian company Aramco publishes the prices of these two components of LPG every month, known as Saudi Aramco Contract Price (CP). Bangladesh energy regulator adjusts the LPG price in the country based on the Saudi CP.
The regulatory commission has also increased the reticulated LPG price to Tk101.02 which was Tk96.78 per kg for October and Tk99.65 per kg in September.
Besides, the retail price of per litre auto gas has been pushed up to Tk58.28 for November from Tk55.12 in October.
However, prices of state-owned LP Gas Limited's cylinders remain unchanged.
At present, the country consumes around 1 lakh tonnes of LPG per month, of which around 99% is being provided by private operators.
