Beanibazar field to add 8mmcf gas to national grid from Monday
With imported LNG, the country has now a supply of around 2,587mmcf of gas per day whereas demand is around 3,400-3,500mmcf
Beanibazar Gas Field will supply an additional eight million cubic feet (mmcf) of gas to the national grid transmission line from Monday, slightly easing the country's ongoing gas crisis.
Earlier this month, Sylhet Gas Fields Limited discovered a fresh gas reserve in an abandoned well in the Beanibazar field after a workover.
Briefing reporters at the gas field on Sunday, Sylhet Gas Fields General Manager Abdul Jalil Pramanik said, "We completed all the testing work on well 1 on Sunday afternoon. Gas pressure in well 1 has been tested and all the technical preparations for gas supply to the national grid are at the final stage."

"If everything goes according to plan, supply to the national grid transmission line will start Monday morning," he added.
Beanibazar gas field, which is operated by Sylhet Gas Fields, currently supplies seven mmcf of gas from well 2 to the national transmission lines every day.
According to sources of the Sylhet Gas Fields, gas extraction from well 1 started in 1991 and closed in 2014. After resuming gas extraction in 2016, the well was declared close again later that year.
The Bangladesh Petroleum Exploration and Production Company Limited (Bapex) as a contractor on behalf of SGFL began re-drilling in well 1 on 10 September. A month later on 10 November, Sylhet Gas Fields confirmed the new-founded reserve.
Sylhet Gas Fields Managing Director Mizanur Rahman said, "Currently, the well has more than 70 billion cubic feet of gas in reserve at a depth of 3,254 metres. The pressure test revealed that the well is capable of supplying up to 10-12 million cubic feet of gas per day."
"However, considering various technical aspects, eight million cubic feet of gas will be extracted daily for now. It is also expected to yield 125 to 130 barrels of gas condensate per day," he said.
"After fresh gas was found in this well, the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources directed us to finish all the testing work and begin supply as soon as possible," the managing director said.
"Apart from this, a three-dimensional seismic survey is going on in different areas of Sylhet including Beanibazar. There is a strong possibility of finding new gas reserves through this survey," he said, adding that all gas companies in the country are supposed to increase the gas supply by around 618 mmcf within 2025 through the workover of 46 old wells.
There are five gas fields under Sylhet Gas Fields Limited – Haripur gas field, Rashidpur gas field, Chhatak gas field, Kailashtila gas field and Beanibazar gas field.
Among them, Chhatak field is abandoned and 12 wells of the remaining fields are currently producing 91 million cubic feet of gas per day.
At present, there are 28 discovered gas fields in the country, 20 of which are now supplying 2,206.5mmcf of gas per day.
With imported liquefied natural gas (LNG), the country is now supplying 2,586.6mmcf of gas per day whereas demand for gas is around 3,400-3,500mmcf.
