12kg LPG cylinder price up Tk46 for December
The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) has raised the price of a 12kg cylinder of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) by Tk46 to Tk1,297 for December
Consumers will have to pay an additional Tk46 for a 12kg cylinder of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), provided by private companies, for the rest of this month.
Each cylinder will now cost Tk1,297 as the cooking gas underwent a Tk97 price rise in two consecutive months amid skyrocketing prices of everyday essentials.
"The new price will be effective from this evening (Sunday)," Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (Berc) Chairman Md Abdul Jalil said at a virtual press conference.
He announced that the price of LPG gas per kg would be Tk108.08 and the retail price of other sizes of cylinders will be increased proportionally.
In November, the price of a 12kg cylinder of LPG, mostly used for cooking, was increased by Tk51 to Tk1,251.
Asked about a recent ordinance that allowed the government to adjust electricity and gas prices without holding hearings, Md Abdul Jalil said "The government can amend the act when it wants. But Berc will run following the act whatever it is there."
Responding to a question about allowing private companies to import LNG, he said the decision rests with the government but the licence would be issued by the commission.
Meanwhile, the regulatory commission has also increased the reticulated LPG price to Tk104.85 from Tk101.02 in November.
Besides, the retail price of per litre auto gas has been pushed up to Tk60.41 for December, from Tk58.28 in October.
However, the prices of state-owned LP Gas Limited's cylinders will remain unchanged.
At present, the country consumes around 1 lakh tonnes of LPG per month, of which around 99% is being provided by private operators.
