Engineers demand for removal of UGC Acting Chairman Alamgir
They also called for a thorough investigation into various allegations of irregularities and corruption against him
The Anti-Discrimination Engineers' Society has demanded the removal of University Grants Commission (UGC) Acting Chairman Professor Muhammad Alamgir.
During a press conference held at the Jatiya Press Club today (3 September), the society members demanded Alamgir's removal from all positions, including as chairman of UGC and professor at Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET).
They also called for a thorough investigation into various allegations of irregularities and corruption against Alamgir and strict actions to restore the dignity and integrity of the UGC and the education sector.
At the conference, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet) Professor Sabbir Mustafa Khan said, "Alamgir served as the vice-chancellor of Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET) from 2010-2018.
"During his tenure, he allegedly destroyed the academic environment of KUET, turning the campus into a haven for political violence and criminal activities.
"He is also accused of forming a student wing to maintain his power and providing shelter to criminals," he added.
The professor further said, "During his time at the UGC, several allegations including irregularities and corruption in financial management, appointments, promotions, oversight, inspections, investigations, maintaining transparency in exam results, certificate management, exam quality control, and management of development project funds have been raised against him."
