Cautionary signal 1 as low may intensify into Cyclone Jawad
The depression intensified into a deep depression over west-central adjoining southeast Bay and was located at adjoining regions of the Bangladesh seaports at 9am on Friday
A distant cautionary signal no 1 has been hoisted at maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Mongla, and Payra as the low in the Bay of Bengal is feared to intensify into Cyclone Jawad.
The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD or Met) shared the information in the special weather bulletin (serial number-3) on Friday morning.
The depression intensified into a deep depression over west-central adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal on Friday morning. It was located about 1,165 km southwest of Chattogram port, 1,105 km southwest of Cox's Bazar port, 1,080 km south-southwest of Mongla port and 1,060 km south-southwest of Payra port at 9am on Friday. It is likely to intensify further and move to the northwest direction, according to the BMD special weather bulletin.

The maximum sustained wind speed within 48 km of the depression centre is about 50 kmph, rising to 60 kmph in gusts and squalls, it added.
According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the depression is expected to further intensify into a cyclonic storm and travel along the north Andhra Pradesh and Odisha coasts by Saturday morning; it is also very likely to move towards Bangladesh.
Mentioning the current situation, the Bangladesh Met Office has advised the maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Mongla, and Payra to hoist distant warning signal No-1.
All fishing boats and trawlers over the North Bay and deep sea have been advised to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution. They are also advised not to venture into the deep sea.
