Mahmudur Rahman, former editor of Amar Desh, returned to Bangladesh today (27 September) after six years of exile in London during Sheikh Hasina's government.
Upon his arrival at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka around 9am, he was met with cheers, applause, and slogans from supporters who gathered to offer him a warm reception.
Speaking to the media, Mahmudur paid tribute to revolutionary martyrs who contributed to the fall of Sheikh Hasina government.
"Abu Sayeed is a revolutionary icon of Bangladesh, and we will never forget him or any of the martyrs who inspire us," he said.
Mahmudur further stated, "The Sheikh Hasina government has fallen due to the mass uprising. After six years in exile, I have finally returned to my motherland. I was sentenced to seven years on absurd and false charges."
However, acknowledging that he still faces legal challenges, he said, "There are many false cases against me. I returned quickly as my mother is critically ill. I want to spend two days with her. I will go to court on Sunday, as there is an arrest warrant against me.
"I might be imprisoned, but I urge you not to be alarmed. I will handle everything through the legal process," he said.
