Six members of Indian Border Security Force (BSF), working at Agartala integrated check post, have been infected with coronavirus, leading to a halt in the exports through Akhaura land port in Brahmanbaria.

Md Rajib Uddin Bhuiyan, Akhaura Land Port Import-Export Association's joint general secretary, confirmed the matter, saying, "The port has been closed since Sunday morning. But Indian businessmen have not officially informed us about it as yet."

He added, "We have personally contacted Agartala port and learned about the infected BSF members. That is why Indian traders have stopped importing goods. However, we are not yet sure when the exports will resume."
Akhaura land port is one of the largest and 100% export oriented ports in the country. Every day various goods are exported to seven states known as the Seven Sisters of India through this port. However, with the improvement of communication between Tripura and other states, the export volume has already come down. Now, the export trade of Akhaura land port survives by exporting a few products including oil, cement and stone.
