The fabricated report was made to vilify the army: General Aziz
General Aziz said he met with his brother after the charges were acquitted
The chief of Bangladesh Army Staff General Aziz Ahmed has said those who have aired the fabricated report accusing him want to humiliate the army.
"Why the army chief is being targeted again and again, because Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has directly appointed this army chief. To embarrass the army chief is to embarrass the prime minister," he said.
General Aziz said this while talking to the reporters after attending a programme organised by the Army Aviation Group in the capital's Tejgaon on Tuesday morning.
He said the report Al-Jazeera aired was false and fabricated, and authorities concerned would take action against those involved in preparing it.
Mentioning that a conspiracy is going on against the Bangladesh Army, General Aziz said, "It will not be possible for the army to do anything against those involved in the video. The ministry concerned may take action."
General Aziz further said when he had met his brother abroad, his brother was already acquitted on all charges.
"He was acquitted in March and I went to see him in April," he said.
He also said his brothers arrived in Bangladesh only after they were acquitted.
"We will say everything at a press conference. I am aware of what needs to be done to maintain the image of the army. What Al-Jazeera has done is completely ill-motivated," he said.
General Aziz also commented about how Al-Jazeera followed him. "I do not think it is appropriate to use any official protocol when I am on a private visit. It seems a waste to me. If anyone had done anything using that opportunity, you know well who did it and why it was done," he said.
He further said that false and fabricated information about the army was being spread.
"Everyone has to be careful. Do not come to play with the armed forces. The army is the pride of the country. Rumours are being spread to create confusion about it. The forces are now much more integrated. The forces have rejected this out of hatred. The whole chain of command is all alert. The army respects the constitution. Nothing will happen to the forces due to these campaigns," said General Aziz.
