A father’s last journey: RU teacher dies in accident on way to pick up daughter from school
According to RMCH doctors, the cause of death was excessive cerebral hemorrhage
Puranjit Mahaldar, an associate professor in the Bangla department at Rajshahi University, set out on a seemingly ordinary task to pick up his daughter from school yesterday (13 January), only for a tragic road accident to claim his life along the way.
Prof Shahid Iqbal, chairman of Bangla department at Rajshahi University, said Puranjit left the university around 2:30pm yesterday to pick his daughter, a grade II student at Rajshahi Cantonment Public School.
The professor stated that while attempting to give way to a speeding truck, Puranjit lost control of his motorcycle at the Baro Road intersection near Chandrima Police Station, resulting in a fall that caused serious head injuries.
Despite immediate medical attention at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, he passed away in the ICU at 2:35am today (14 January), he said.
Dr Shankar Biswas, spokesperson for Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, said Puranjit Mahaldar was admitted to the neurosurgery department at 3:40am after the accident yesterday.
His condition rapidly deteriorated, and he was transferred to the ICU, where he succumbed to his injuries at 3:30am today, said the doctor.
Dr Biswas stated that the cause of death was excessive cerebral hemorrhage.
Puranjit Mahaldar's body was brought to Shahidullah Arts Building at Rajshahi University around 9am today, where friends, colleagues, students, and well-wishers gathered to pay their respects.
Following the tribute, his body will be transported to his ancestral home in Dumuria, Khulna.
