Financial corruption in livestock sector to be investigated: Adviser
Financial corruption that occurred during the tenure of the previous government in the livestock sector will be investigated to ensure proper justice, Farida Akhter, adviser to the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, has said.
She made the remark while speaking to journalists after inaugurating the Institute of Livestock Science and Technology at Tilagarh in Sylhet yesterday (28 December).
Farida said during the previous government's tenure, funds were embezzled in many areas without implementing projects. "Moreover, several works were left incomplete. These issues will be investigated."
She also mentioned that reforms and justice in the livestock ministry will proceed simultaneously.
The adviser added that, along with humans, livestock, poultry, and other animals suffered significant damage due to the floods in Sylhet. To address this situation, the government has planned to establish special shelter homes for animals in flood-affected areas. The government has also taken initiatives to ensure the supply of food for animals, just as it does for humans, during floods to protect livestock, she said.
Following the inauguration, Farida participated in a discussion meeting with livestock officers of Sylhet division at the conference room of the District Dairy Farm.
Additional secretaries of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock ATM Mostafa Kamal and Md Tofazzal Hossain, Director General of the Department of Livestock Services Md Reazul Haque, Sylhet Deputy Commissioner Md Sher Mahbub Murad, Project Director Jahangir Alam, and others were present at the event.
