The fire in the Fresh tissue paper warehouse of Meghna Group in Narayanganj has been doused after nine hours, Fire Service and Civil Defence officials said.
The fire broke out at 5:10am today (18 November), confirmed Fire Service and Civil Defense Station Officer Sujan Kumar Halda.
Upon receiving the information, 12 units of fire service, including those of nearby fire stations and that of Meghna Group, worked to bring the fire under control.
The fire was brought under control around 12pm and it was doused completely around 2pm.
The fire service said after the fire broke out in the four-story warehouse of the paper and pulp factory, which produces fresh tissue, it spread quickly. At that time, workers and employees in the factory tried to put out the fire. However, as the factory had a large amount of raw materials, paper and finished tissues, the fire kept raging on.
Eyewitnesses said the fire was quickly brought under control as the factory's workers started working immediately after the fire broke out. However, the four-story building was completely damaged.
Dhaka Fire Service Deputy Director Saleh Uddin said no casualties have been reported so far. The origin of the fire and the extent of the damage can be said after the investigation.
