Firing on Bangladesh-Myanmar border terrifies Rohingyas, BGB on alert
The BGB is going to send a protest letter regarding the incident
Heavy firing near the zero lines of Tambru on the Bangladesh-Myanmar border has terrified Rohingyas and put the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) on alert.
Myanmar has said it is conducting a joint operation against terrorists inside the country.
The incident terrified the Rohingyas sheltered near the Konarpara zero line and BGB remains vigilant.

Lt Col Ali Haider Azad of Cox's Bazar BGB-34 confirmed it on Friday evening.
"Upon contact with Myanmar, the country said its army and Border Guard Police (BGP) jointly conducted an operation against terrorists 500 yards inside their country. The shootings took place during that operation," said Lt Col Ali Haider Azad.
The BGB is going to send a protest letter regarding the incident and is monitoring the situation at the border with the highest alert, he added.
According to local people, the canal in the Konarpara area on the zero line on the Tambru border is known as the Tumbru canal, where about 5,000 Rohingyas took shelter fleeing Myanmar after August 24, 2016.
From there, Myanmar had been repeatedly firing and detonating hidden landmines with the aim of infiltrating the Bangladesh border. Landmines have already killed many Rohingyas, locals added.
They further said the Myanmar army has also built a road along the barbed-wire fence on the border, which is now used by Myanmar army vehicles every day.
A Rohingya at the zero line said the sound of gunfire was heard for about an hour, which terrified the people of the Rohingya. Furthermore, Myanmar border guards occasionally open fire to intimidate the Rohingyas, he added.
