First Bangladesh-flagged vessel built under IRClass launches
MV ROKNOOR-32, a general cargo vessel, is the first in the series of five vessels of 3,200 DWT
The first Bangladesh-flagged vessel built under the classification of the Indian Register of Shipping (IRClass) at Delta Shipyard Limited (DSL) in Chattogram launched recently.
The DSL received a construction order for five vessels, from Unichart Navigation Limited, in September last year. Of those, MV ROKNOOR-32, a general cargo vessel, is the first in the series of five vessels of 3,200 DWT – which was successfully launched this year.
The launch follows closely on those of several other vessels which were built under IRClass' classification and successfully delivered during this unprecedented global pandemic.
"It underpins IRClass' dedication and proven track record to fulfil clients' needs, ensuring that work carries on even during these unpredictable times," read a press release sent by Helix PR on behalf of IRClass.
Executive Director of DSL Syed Monzur Hossain said, "We would like to thank IRClass for all the support provided during this pandemic. The timely approval of plans allowed the construction to proceed smoothly and the team's unsurpassed attention to detail ensured that any issues were resolved early on in the process."
MV ROKNOOR-32 is approximately 82.5m long with a capacity of 3,200 DWT, and is designed to meet the latest International Maritime Organisation conventions and codes for worldwide operations.
Amit Bhatnagar, regional manager of East Coast of India and Bangladesh for IRClass, commented: "I am delighted with our team in Bangladesh who have worked tirelessly during this period to facilitate the successful construction and launch of the vessel."
"The team has been very committed from the start and quickly adapted to the 'new normal' of safety measures, implemented to allow safe operations for both our clients and surveyors," he continued.
According to the Department of Shipping, there are seven standard classification firms working in Bangladesh, and IRClass is one of them.
Around 26 vessels are being built in different shipyards in Bangladesh under the classification of the IRClass.
