First cargo ship carrying stones arrives from Bhutan
The ship arrived in Bangladesh on July 16 .
The first cargo ship containing stone aggregates from Bhutan has been recieved formally at Narayanganj on Thursday.
The cargo reached here via India and it would potentially strengthen the relations between the neighboring countries, said a press release of the High Commission of India.
Indian High Commissioner Riva Ganguly Das, Bhutanese Ambassador Sonam T. Rabgye, along with the Vice Chairman of Basundhara Group Safwan Sobhan, received the first ever shipment through the Indo-Bangladesh Protocol route.

“Transport of cargo through this route will cut short travel time by 8 to 10 days, and reduce transportation cost by 30%, bringing down logistics costs,” said Shri Mandaviya, Minister of State for Shipping, in the flagged off ceremony on July 12.
The stone aggregates were transported by trucks from Bhutan to Dhubri Port in Assam, from where the cargo sailed through Brahmaputra River to Narayanganj.
Dhubri was declared a ‘port of call’ in October 2018.
The initiatives has been taken as per Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision to promote cargo transportation through inland waterways.
