Fisherman succumbs to death in Cox’s Bazar gas cylinder fire on trawler
Nine others are undergoing treatment
A fisherman who was burned in a gas cylinder fire on a trawler at ghat-6 of Nuniachara in Cox's Bazar succumbed to his death in the early hours of Monday (4 September).
The deceased was identified as Osman Gani, 20, confirmed by Chittagong Medical College Hospital police outpost In-Charge Nurul Alam Ashek.
He said Osman Goni's respiratory tract was 60% burned, and he died while undergoing treatment at the CMCH in the early hours of Monday.
"At present, seven others are undergoing treatment at CMCH. All of them have sustained 60-90% burns, and their respiratory tracts were also affected. Two others have been sent to Dhaka for better treatment," said Nurul Alam Ashek.
Earlier, around 8:30am on Friday (1 September), a gas cylinder exploded on a trawler that was anchored at ghat 6 in Nunyarchara city of Cox's Bazar.
At least 12 fishermen sustained serious burn injuries.
Muhammad Kamal, one of the sailors of the trawler FV Laki, said the trawler returned and anchored at ghat 6 of the city on Thursday (31 August) afternoon after fishing in the sea for nine days.
"Most sailors left after that. However, some of the sailors were sleeping on the trawler on Friday morning. I was working on the front part of the trawler with two others, and a couple of fishermen were making tea on a gas stove. All of a sudden, there was a loud noise, and everyone started to panic," he added.
He also said there were 18 people on the boat at the time of the incident, 12 of whom were burned.
