Australian national dies as his scooter hits tree on Marine Drive in Cox’s Bazar
The incident also left two others injured
An Australian nation died in a scooter accident on Marine Drive road in Ukhiya of Cox's Bazar.
Two other individuals were injured in the accident that took place on Thursday (14 November) afternoon in the Uttar Nidania area of Jaliapalong union, Ukhiya Police Station Officer-in-Charge Arif Hossain told The Business Standard tonight, correcting his earlier statement in which he described the incident as a 'collision between two motorcycles'.
The deceased Australian has been identified as Daniel Paul Megreen, 49, said the OC, adding that he used to work for an international organisation in the beach city. However, the name of the organisation could not be confirmed immediately.
"Daniel Paul Megreen was heading for Cox's Bazar riding his scooter. As he reached the Beli Shrimp Hatchery in Uttar Nidania, he lost control of his scooter and hit a roadside tree. He died on the spot. The scooter also hit two other people, injuring them," OC Arif said quoting locals.
The body of the deceased has been sent to the mortuary of the Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital for an autopsy.
The identities of the injured could not be identified as their bodies were removed from the spot by locals before the police could reach the site.
