Former MP Enamul Haque ‘assaulted by inmates’ in Rajshahi jail
Former member of Parliament of Rajshahi-4 Md Enamul Haque has been physically assaulted allegedly by the inmates at Rajshahi Central Jail.
Following the attack, the former lawmaker was taken to Rajshahi Medical Hospital for treatment around 7:30pm on Wednesday (25 September).
Dr Jahedul Islam, duty doctor at RMCH emergency unit, said, "Enamul Haque sustained injury on the right side of his forehead. In the evening, prison guards brought him to the hospital, where he received first aid and then he was sent back to jail. We were informed that he had been assaulted by other inmates at the jail."
DIG Prison Kamal Hossain said, "I have heard that Enamul Haque was unwell, which is why he was taken to the hospital. I am not sure if he was beaten or not, we need to look into it."
On 16 September, Enamul Haque was arrested on charges of inciting violence on the protest rallies led by Anti-Discrimination Student Movement on 5 August.
Enamul Haque was elected to the Jatiya Sangsad from Rajshahi-4 for three consecutive terms (2008, 2014 and 2018) as a Bangladesh Awami League candidate.
