Saudi Arabia has launched Bangladesh Cultural Week to celebrate the contributions of millions of Bangladeshi migrants in the Gulf country as part of the Global Harmony initiative led by the Saudi Ministry of Media.
The event began on Wednesday (20 November) at Al Suwaidi Park in Riyadh and will run until 23 November.
It features concerts, family-friendly cultural and entertainment events by Bangladeshi artists, traditional food stalls, and handicraft exhibitions.
Saudi Arabia is the largest destination for Bangladeshi workers, with over 3 million migrants contributing significantly to the development of both nations. Their remittances play a vital role in supporting Bangladesh's economy.
Thousands of Bangladeshi migrants, who form a significant community in Saudi Arabia, attended the opening ceremony.
The Global Harmony initiative is part of Saudi Arabia's "Quality of Life" programme, aligned with the Vision 2030 objectives.
It aims to showcase the diversity of residents' lives in the Kingdom, including their professional and personal achievements, cultural integration, and economic contributions, according to a release.
The initiative also highlights government and private sector efforts to improve the quality of life across Saudi cities.
In partnership with the General Entertainment Authority, the Ministry of Media has organised a series of events during the Riyadh Season, which began on 13 August. These events feature cultural, artistic, and folkloric performances from various countries and are attended by prominent media outlets representing these nations.
Cultures from different countries—including India, the Philippines, Indonesia, Pakistan, Yemen, Sudan, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Bangladesh, and Egypt—are being showcased during the Riyadh Season. This annual celebration, which started on 13 October, will run for 49 days.
The Bangladesh Cultural Week recognises the invaluable contributions of the Bangladeshi migrant community in Saudi Arabia and underscores the shared cultural and economic ties between the two nations.
