Number of dengue patients exceeds 85,000
A total of 461 dengue patients were hospitalised across Bangladesh in the past 24 hours
The number of hospitalised dengue patients has exceeded 85,000 since January this year, which is the highest in the past 19 years.
According to the Directorate General of Health Services, a total of 85,288 dengue patients were hospitalised to different public and private hospitals across the country. Among them, 83,046 returned home after receiving treatment.
In the last 24 hours till Monday morning, 461 dengue patients were hospitalised. Among them, 143 were admitted to 41 government and public hospitals inside Dhaka and 318 to different district-level hospitals.
Though the overall number of new infections with the mosquito borne disease is decreasing, it is still quite concerning outside Dhaka.
Currently, 2,018 dengue patients are undergoing treatment across the country with 861 in Dhaka and 1,157 outside the capital.
According to the Directorate General of Health Services, the Institute of Epidemiology Disease Control and Research has so far reviewed 126 deaths and confirmed that 75 among the patients died of dengue. The institute so far received information about 224 deaths.
In Bangladesh, dengue infection was first identified in 2000 when at least 93 people died and 5,551 were hospitalised.
