Government prepared to tackle HMPV virus: Dr Sayedur Rahman
HMPV is less dangerous than covid-19, though it similarly affects the respiratory system, said Dr Sayedur Rahman
There is no need to panic about the HMPV virus, assured Dr Sayedur Rahman, special assistant to the chief adviser.
"The risk of a pandemic is low, and there's no need for border alerts. However, the government is prepared," he said.
According to Dr Rahman, the World Health Organisation has not issued an alert for the virus.
"A separate treatment guideline will be developed for HMPV cases, but it won't differ much from existing ones," he added.
He emphasised that HMPV is less dangerous than covid-19, though it similarly affects the respiratory system.
"Health protocols similar to covid-19 aren't required. However, wearing masks is advised for children and the elderly as a precaution," he said.
He explained that HMPV treatment is similar to the common flu.
