Govt exempts July martyrs’ families from age limit for purchasing family savings certificates
The government has exempted male family members of the martyrs of the July-August Uprising from the minimum age requirement of 65 years when purchasing family savings certificates.
The Internal Resources Division issued a notification on Monday outlining this decision.
Previously, the National Board of Revenue (NBR) had announced on 5 January that the family members of the July Uprising martyrs would be exempt from filing income tax returns when purchasing savings certificates using state assistance funds.
Under the existing rules, males were required to be at least 65 years old to purchase family savings certificates.
However, following the new notifications, both male and female relatives of the martyrs can now buy the certificates with government grant money without the need for income tax returns, as stated in an NBR press release.
It should be noted that women, regardless of age, have always been eligible to purchase family savings certificates under the existing provisions. The latest move relaxes the age limit for male family members of the martyrs.
