Police remove protestors blocking Shahbagh intersection
Police have removed a group of protestors who staged a sit-in at the Shahbagh intersection in the capital, demanding an extension to the age limit for government jobs to 35 years.
From 4pm onward, the protesters occupied the Shahbagh intersection, disrupting traffic and causing significant congestion, informed Muhammad Salman Farsi, assistant commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Ramna Zone.
Around 8:30pm, the police removed the protestors from the spot.
Haroon Or Rashid, additional deputy commissioner of DMP Ramna zone, told The Business Standard that they dispersed and drove away the protesters hours after their sit-in programme.
DMP Ramna Division Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Ashraf Hossain said, "The protestors were repeatedly asked to move but they did not agree. Later the police started blowing whistles and then the protestors left."
Traffic movement is now back to normal in Shahbagh area, he added.
