GP employees protest against obstruction of fundamental rights and intimidation of workers
The Grameenphone Employees Union demanded Masud’s reinstatement by 1 November
Members of Grameenphone Employees' Union have again staged a sit-in programme in front of its headquarters in Bashundhara residential area as they received an email from the authorities, which they deem as obstruction of fundamental rights and threatening.
Previously, on 27 October, the General Secretary of Grameenphone Employees Union Mia Mohammad Shafiqur Rahman Masud was dismissed without being given any reason by applying Section 26 of the Bangladesh Labour Act, reads a press release by the union.
In protest of the incident, members of Grameenphone Employees Union staged a sit-in in front of Grameenphone's head office on 28 October and in front of the Labour Office on 29 October.
The Grameenphone Employees Union demanded Masud's reinstatement by 1 November.
However, no response was received from the GP management within the deadline. At the request of the members of the Grameenphone Employees Union, a peaceful sit-in was announced in front of the Grameenphone head office on 2 November, which prompted the said email.
