Coronavirus test in Chattogram likely from Tuesday

The detection of the coronavirus cases in Chattogram is likely to begin on Tuesday.
The Bangladesh Institute of Tropical and Infectious Disease (BITID) at Faujdarhat in the port city will perform the tests.
At present, only the National Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) is capable of conducting coronavirus tests.
"Three BITID officers have already been sent to Dhaka to receive training on Sunday and Monday. After that, they will return with testing kits from IEDCR," said Mamunur Rashid, associate professor of Medicine at BITID Hospital.
He also said that BITID's bio-safety lab is modern, but due to its small size and manpower crisis, coronavirus detection test results might take up to 3-4 hours.
Mamunur Rashid said they collected two samples from hundreds of people crowding at the BITID and that they sent those to Dhaka.
"We are collecting samples based on symptoms and surroundings," he said.
Chattogram Civil Surgeon Dr Sheikh Fazle Rabbi said 150 beds have been prepared at two hospitals and 900 people are already in home quarantine in the district.
