Dengue death toll rises to 522
Five more deaths were reported from dengue in 24 hours till this morning (7 December), raising the number of fatalities from the mosquito-borne disease in Bangladesh to 522 this year.
During the period, 562 more patients were hospitalised with viral fever, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
In the recent fatalities, three were reported in the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), each one in Dhaka and Chittagong Division (outside of the city corporation).
Meanwhile, 503 dengue patients have been discharged from hospitals across the country in the last 24 hours. With this, a total of 92,702 people have been discharged this year.
Last year, dengue claimed the lives of 1,705 people, making it the deadliest year on record.
According to DGHS, there were 3,21,179 dengue cases and 3,18,749 recoveries in 2023.
