Police checkposts have been set up at key intersections in Dhaka
As announced, police have enforced a strict lockdown in the capital since 6am Wednesday.
Checkposts have been set up at important intersections along with the exit and entry points of the city to control people's movement.
Besides, people are being checked to see if they have "Movement Pass" at different checkpoints including Dhanmondi 27, Russell Square, Kalabagan, Science Lab intersection, Bata Signal, Bangla Motor and Shahbagh.
Bangladesh has enforced the weeklong stricter lockdown measures from 6am Wednesday as the Covid-19 pandemic hit the country harder in recent weeks.
General people are not allowed without a movement pass.
They are being sent back if they do not have a pass or a permit or any logical reason for being outdoors.
Besides, police are filing cases and fining people for unnecessary movement.
At the Shahbagh intersection police have set up a check post.
Action is also being taken against rickshaw-pullers for roaming around without any passenger.
Police filed a case against a pick-up van as it was going to Jatrabari carrying bitumen without any movement pass.
Most people without having any movement pass are citing medical reasons when police stop them on the streets.
Covid-19 cases in the country have been surging sharply from the second week of March, taking the tally to 6,97,985. The death toll from the dreaded virus here now stands at 9,891.
The government announced a set of restrictions to be imposed during the nationwide lockdown for 14-21 April.
