Hydraulic test of RCPS at Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant completed
Hydraulic test of the reactor coolant pump set (RCPS) at Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant (RNPP) in Ishwardi of Pabna has been completed.
The test was carried out by Petrozavodsk Branch of JSC 'AEM-Technology' (part of Atomenergomash, engineering division of Russia's State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom, and a member of Karelian Regional Wing of the Russian Engineering Union), said a press release on Wednesday.
Dr Shaukat Akbar, director of the power plant, said the construction of the plant was progressing fast amid Covid-19 pandemic.
The first reactor of the nuclear project has already arrived at Rooppur.
The test is the part of the plant's first unit's progress.
Hydraulic testing is very important during the preparation of pump housing.
Strength and tightness of the items must be justified, reads the press release.
RCPS housing is a part of a first class security system. The reactor coolant pump at the nuclear power plant provides coolant circulation from the reactor to the steam generator.
Inside the coolant, pressure is operated at 160 atmospheres and 300 degree Celsius. Each unit has four circular RCPS pump housings.
Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant project is being designed and implemented by the engineering department of Rosatom.
Each of the two units at the power plant has 1,200 VVER reactors with a capacity of 60 years.
It can be extended for another 20 years.
Each unit has a generating capacity of 1,200 MW.
The first and second units will be effective from 2023 and 2024 respectively.
EM Technology Company is preparing the main parts of the reactor hall of the two units.
