Indian HC meets with Railway minister
The meeting is expected to further enhance the relations between the two countries, in rail communication
Indian High Commissioner (HC) to Bangladesh Riva Ganguly Das has visited Railway Minister Md Nurul Islam Sujan.
During the meeting today, at the Railway Bhaban, they discussed ongoing Indian-funded projects of the Bangladesh Railway–including a third and fourth line from Dhaka to Tongi and a double line from Tongi to Joydevpur.
The railway minister requested the Indian HC launch another new line to be constructed from Chilahati to Haldibari.
If India builds 150 metres on its side, it will be possible for Bangladesh to link it with India for improved rail communication.
The minister also discussed operating a train to Siliguri if a new railway line is constructed from Panchagarh to Banglabandha.
During the meeting, they talked about operational cargo and freight trains operating between the two countries as a breakthrough in rail communication.
The railway minister informed the Indian HC to Bangladesh that India's locomotive, which was gifted, has excellent capacity.
They also discussed the construction of a container depot in Sirajganj and a coach factory in Parbatipur with Indian funding.
The meeting is expected to further enhance the relations between the two countries, in rail communication.
Railway Ministry Secretary Md Selim Reza and Director General of Bangladesh Railway Md Shamsuzzaman were present at the meeting.
