Indian smuggler shot dead by BGB in Mymensingh
An Indian man was killed as members of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) fired on a smuggling group in response to an attack.
The incident took place at Haluaghat border area of Mymensingh on Monday night, BGB Mymensingh Sector 39 Battalion Commander Lieutenant Colonel Touhid Mahmud told The Business Standard.
The deceased has been identified as Debit Momin, 46, hailing from Garo Hills area of India.
Touhid said, "A gang of smugglers was trying to trespass Haluaghat upazila border where BGB members were on patrol. Sensing their appearance BGB men chased the gang. At one point the smugglers attacked BGB men with sharp weapons prompting firing from BGB that led to Debit Momin's death.
"12 bottles of liquor and 260 pieces of yaba tablets were recovered during the incident," Touhid added.
The body has been sent to the morgue of Mymensingh Medical College.
