Bhola Bridge under PPP: Cabinet

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has decided in principle to build the Bhola Bridge over Tentulia and Kalabadar rivers to connect the island district of Bhola with Barishal under a 'Public Private Partnership' (PPP) project.
According to the Joint Secretary, Cabinet Division, Dr Abul Saleh Mostafa Kamal, the decision was taken during the cabinet meeting on Thursday, chaired by the Agriculture Minister, Md Abdur Razzaque.
The Bangladesh Bridge Authority said the 4.68-kilometer bridge will be built at an estimated cost of Tk12,916 crore.
During the same meeting, the Cabinet Committee green-lit the import of 65,000 tonnes of bituminous crude oil from G-2-G Supplier Company for the test run of Bashundhara Bitumen and Asphalt Production Plant under Bashundhara Oil and Gas Company Ltd (BOGCL) at a cost of Tk196.52 crore.
The cabinet body has also decided to extend the tenure of the 34.50MW Bhola rental power plant of Venture Energy Resources Limited for another two years. The government has to pay Tk148 crore to buy power from the plant in the next two years.
The Committee endorsed the proposal to import two lakh tonnes of urea from Singapore.
