Dhaka South conducts major road repairs, targets October for completion

Dhaka South City Corporation has recently undertaken the repair of several damaged roads within its jurisdiction and expects to complete the work by the end of October.

Dhaka South's engineering department, under the guidance of AF Hassan Arif, adviser to the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives, and the supervision of Administrator Md Nazrul Islam, has been working to complete the repairs, sources said.

The local government advisor, AF Hasan Arif, took note of the public's difficulties caused by potholes and road damage due to heavy rainfall in August and September.
Following an on-site inspection in Lalbagh on 28 September, he instructed the city authorities to "quickly repair all damaged roads, including those in Lalbagh."
In response, newly appointed Dhaka South Administrator Md Nazrul Islam directed the engineering department to initiate the necessary measures. He has been actively overseeing the work, even attending to these matters on weekends and holidays to ensure timely completion.
Several key roads have already been repaired, including thfarifose adjacent to the Secretariat, Syed Nazrul Islam Avenue, Mirpur Road, Dhaka University's main road, the Education Board area, and Lalbagh Road.
Other repaired areas include Nilkhet Road, Kantanagar Road, Babupara Road, Hatirpool Bazaar, Shahid Captain Mansur Ali Avenue, Shahbagh intersection, Palashi to Shaheed Minar, Science Lab intersection, TSC, Doyel Chattar, Bailey Road and Shantinagar.
Additionally, Dhanmondi, Rajarbagh, Shahjahanpur, Fakirapool, Outer Circular Road, Zero Point to Bangabhaban, Motijheel Shapla Chattar to Ittefaq More, Tanjimpara Crossing, Jatrabari to Dholaipar Road, Dhalpur to Sayedabad area, Jaykali Temple and Hatkhola Road have already been repaired.
Efforts are also underway to address potholes and cracks on other roads in need of repair. Tenders have already been invited for the construction, reconstruction, and complete renovation of several other roads.
In this regard, Dhaka South Administrator Md Nazrul Islam said, "Alleviating the suffering of city dwellers is one of our primary goals. With the expert guidance of Advisor Arif and the continuous efforts of the engineering department, we have already repaired many roads. The remaining repairs will be completed by the end of this month, and from next month, residents will benefit from these improvements."
He also noted that some roads will be reconstructed where necessary, adding, "We are currently focused on making the roads suitable for public use. Once the rainy season ends completely, we will begin the reconstruction of roads as needed."
Once the rainy season is over, these works will commence, and city dwellers will experience the full benefits of these improvements, he added.
