Bhairab train accident: Joyous family reunion turns tragic for Sujan and his loved ones
Sujan, his wife, two children, along with some relatives were headed to Dhaka.
They had just attended a heartwarming wedding celebration at their village home in Nandail upazila of Mymensingh.
This joyful family reunion turned into a tragedy when their journey took a devastating turn as the train reached Bhairab in Kishoreganj around 4pm.
The Egarosindhur Express collided with a Chattogram-bound container train.
The accident claimed the lives of Sujan, his wife Fatema, 30, and their two sons – Sajeeb, 14, and Ismail, 10.
The Bhairab Upazila Health Complex morgue received their bodies, where the air grew heavy with the mournful cries of grieving relatives.
Sujan's surviving brothers, Swapan Miah and Mizan Miah, grapple with the overwhelming grief of losing their beloved sibling and his family.
Recalling the harrowing incident, Swapan recounted, "As our train was passing the outer section of Bhairav railway station, a container train, approaching from the opposite direction, disregarded the signal, resulting in a catastrophic collision. Two compartments, including the one we were in, were sent skidding off track."
The collision resulted in a grim toll, with at least 17 passengers losing their lives, and hundreds more suffering injuries.
The passenger train and the freight train collided as the latter did not obey the rail signal, the Bangladesh Railway said following preliminary investigation.
