Feni Municipality has begun the construction of a Martyrs' Square at Hospital Mor in Feni town to commemorate the martyrs of the 'July 24' mass uprising. The construction work was inaugurated on Thursday morning by Golam Md Baten, municipality administrator and deputy director of the Local Government Division under the district administration.
The event featured the presence of Nesar Ahmed, father of Ishtiaq Ahmed Shrabon, who was martyred on August 4 during the anti-discrimination student movement in Mohipal. Student representatives Arman Hossain Rafi, Sohrab Hossain Shakil, Saleh Uddin Shaon, and architect Mosharraf Hossain Sagar also attended the event.
Golam Md Baten said, "'Let us change the country, let us change the world'—this slogan reflects the spirit of the Festival of Youth and the vision of building a new Bangladesh through initiatives like this Martyrs' Square."
The project, funded by the municipality's revenue budget, has a budget of Tk2.6 million. It will feature the names of the martyrs alongside a commemorative plaque. The construction is expected to be completed within two months.
