Labour Reform Commission to send recommendations to govt for labour security
The Labour Reform Commission will prepare and submit a set of recommendations to the government aiming to establish social justice and ensure fundamental rights for the country's labour force.
"A report on labour sector reforms, including proposals for amending the labour law, will be submitted within the next 90 days. An action plan has been adopted for this purpose," the commission's head Syed Sultan Uddin Ahmed said today (28 November) after a meeting at the Sram Bhaban in the city's Bijaynagar area.
During the meeting, the commission members it will will formulate necessary recommendations focusing on formation of national minimum wage structure, democratic labour laws, decent and dignified employment, job security, safe working environment, universal social security, the right to organise and bargain, the right to freely form trade unions and the practice of responsible trade unions and business organisations.
Sultan hoped that these recommendations will help establish a decent working environment and social justice.
Other members of the commission, including Mahfuzul Haque, former secretary at the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Jakir Hossain, professor at the Institute of Bangladesh Studies at Rajshahi University, Tapan Dutta, president of the Chattogram divisional committee of the Bangladesh Trade Union Centre, AKM Nasim, former president of Bangladesh Labour Court Bar Association, M Kamran T Rahman, former president of Bangladesh Employers' Federation and Taslima Akhter, photographer and labour movement organiser, were also present on the occasion.
