Lakshmipur AL leader arrested in Dhaka over student killings during July uprising
Police have arrested a Lakshmipur Awami League leader from the capital in a case filed over the killing of four students during the student-led mass uprising.
The AL leader, Abdul Khalek Badal, was arrested from the capital's Mirpur area yesterday (4 January) and was later handed over to Lakshmipur police, said Abdul Monnaf, officer-in-charge of Lakshmipur Sadar Model Police Station.
Badal is the former president of the Bhabaniganj Union Awami League in Sadar upazila.
According to police, on 4 August last year, Awami League, Jubo League and Chhatra League men allegedly opened fire and attacked students and the public at different areas of Lakshmipur town, killing four students and injuring over 200 people.
Thousands of leaders and activists of Awami League, Jubo League and other affiliated organisations were accused in cases filed over the attacks.
