Launch fares hiked by 60%
In line with the government’s instructions to carry half the passengers of a vessel’s capacity to control novel coronavirus infections, the shipping ministry made the decision
The authorities concerned have increased the launch fare for deck or third class by 60% which will be effective from Thursday. However, in the case of cabins, the rent will not increase.

State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury announced the decision at the Secretariat following a meeting on Thursday.
Earlier, the fare for the launch deck was Tk1.70 per kilometer for the first 100 km and Tk1.40 per kilometre afterwards.
On Wednesday, after a discussion with launch owners, Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) Chairman Commodore Golam Sadeq sent a letter to the shipping ministry proposing to raise the fare by 60%.
