LGRD minister for more assistance to meet waste management challenge
Skilled officials from different projects will be rewarded at the event.
Identifying waste management as a major obstacle to the economic development of Bangladesh, the Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Md Tajul Islam has sought assistance from development partners.
Minister Tajul said more short-, medium- and long-term supports are needed to meet the waste management challenge, adding that the government has already started working on this issue.
The minister made the statements on Wednesday while inaugurating a two-day conference of the Asian Development Bank’s (ADB) Good Project Implementation Forum at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the city.

He said rivers and canals of the country are getting polluted every day because of rampant disposal of domestic and industrial waste.
ADB Country Director Manmohan Prakash said Bangladesh is now a role model in achieving gross domestic product (GDP) growth.
The ADB wants to increase its funding in Bangladesh’s communications sector by giving priority to the railway sector in the future, Prakash said.
Economic Relations Division’s Secretary Monowar Ahmed also spoke in the programme.
The two-day conference will highlight experience of implementing projects in India, Bhutan, Indonesia, Nepal and Sri Lanka, besides Bangladesh.
