LPG truck explosion: Pregnant women among 3 burnt in Gazipur
The explosion took place on a road near Rajabari market in Rajabari union in Sreepur
Three people, including a pregnant woman, were burnt when an explosion occurred during the repair of a truck carrying liquid petroleum gas (LPG) in Gazipur's Sreepur today (30 September).
The injured have been identified as Helena Khatun, 54, Halima Khatun, 42, and pregnant Rita Akhter, 21.
The explosion took place on a road near Rajabari market in Rajabari union in Sreepur around 10:30am, Sreepur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Zainal Abedin Mandal told The Business Standard.
The injured were admitted to Gazipur Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital.
Dr Abu Saeed Sajib, a doctor of the hospital's surgery department, said one of the injured, Halima, has been sent to Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in a critical condition for better treatment.
Siddique Mia, an eyewitness, said some people were repairing a leakage in the LPG truck when gas spread in the surrounding area and the explosion took place.
"At that time, some women were cutting fish in the yard of a house in the vicinity. They got burnt in the fire. While the people were busy putting out the fire, the men behind the explosion fled the scene with the truck," he said.
OC Zainal said the police are investigating the incident and legal action will be taken.
