Pay 7 days’ hotel rent for Saudi-bound workers: Baira to govt

The Bangladesh Association of International Recruiting Agencies (Baira) has urged the government to pay every Saudi-bound Bangladeshi worker Tk60,000 from the Wage Earners' Welfare Board fund to cover expenses for their mandatory seven-day quarantine in Saudi Arabian hotels.
On Tuesday, the organisation's election platform Sommilito Somonnoy Front made the call to the Prime Minister and the Minister of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment on behalf of manpower exporting agencies from a press conference at Dhaka Reporters' Unity.
Baira urged the government to vaccinate potential outbound Bangladeshi workers in the country as soon as possible. They also called on the government to launch labour fairs again and to provide a Tk1 crore grant for every licensed recruiting agency affected by the ongoing pandemic.

Baira also demanded the government provide each Baira member a minimum Tk5 crore incentive loan from the Probashi Kallyan Bank and other scheduled commercial banks in order to keep their businesses afloat.
The Front leaders said, "There is no elected representative in Baira at the moment. The day to day operations of the organisation are carried out by an administrator appointed by the Ministry of Commerce so we had no choice but to inform the government about existing problems in our sector."
Shammalita Somonnoy Front president Mohammad Faruk presided over the press conference conducted by its Secretary General Mostafa Mahmud. Vice President Riazul Islam, among others, was also present at the conference.
